Macedonia weather is classified as mainly Continental, combined with Mediterranean and mountainous conditions. Macedonia weather is typified by long and arid summers, amid very cold, wet winters, with heavy snowfall in the mountainous regions. In sharp contrast to the evident characteristics of Macedonia weather during the summer and winter seasons, spring and fall go unobserved. January and February are undeniably the coldest months of the year. Even though Macedonia is a lovely country to explore, May right through to October is the most favorable time to visit.

Periodic air breaks travelling through mountainous barriers from the north and south influences Macedonia weather, transporting dramatic changes in its climate patterns. One instance is the wintry northerly current of air known locally as the "vardarec". Macedonia has a number of beautiful landscapes and some of the richest flora and fauna found in Europe.

Average annual rainfall varies from 1700 mm in the western mountainous regions, and between 600-700 mm in the eastern regions, which is one of the driest regions in the country. Snowfall is present on the mountains from November to April, but in the higher altitude mountainous areas the snow can continue until towards the end of May in Macedonia weather.

Weather in Macedonia’s capital city Skopje averages a minimum temperature of between 5°C to -3°C during January and between 15°C to 31°C in July and August, the hottest months of the year, averaging temperatures of around 25°C. Demir Kapija is the hottest municipality in the country with temperatures during the summer reaching a scorching 40°C. During the coldest month of January temperatures reach a daily high of about 3°C.
